Love the denim look and want to incorporate it into your handmade vacation? Try making this denim patchwork.
This stocking measures 19"h x 12"w. To make a smaller stocking, simply scale the pattern when printing to your desired size (70%, 80%, 90%, etc.). Download and print the storage pattern.
Cut out the cotton fabric using the downloadable patterns. Cut out two mirror images from the front and back of the cotton fabric. Use the denim to cut the stocking.
Place two front and back pieces on a surface you don't mind sticking to.
Cut denim pants into various shapes and sizes. Apply fabric glue to the back of the denim, place the pieces directly on top of your cotton stocking. (It's okay if the patches stick out from the edge of the stocking.) Completely cover both stockings in denim patches.
Let the glue cure completely. This will take a minimum of 4 to 8 hours.
Cut off excess denim that sticks out at the edge of the stocking.
Lay the denim tights to the right, matching all the edges. Pin around the sides and sew. DO NOT sew the top of the stocking closed, just the side edges. Trim the excess seam allowance and turn it to the right.
Fold the stocking bow piece in half along the right sides together. Pin closed and sew. Use a safety pin to rotate the storage loop tube clockwise and press.
Match the bottom raw edges of the storage loop to create the actual loop.
Attach the raw loop edges to the top back edge of the outer storage pieces. Sew 1/8" from the top edge to secure.
Lay the lining pieces to the right and glue around the edges. Leave a 5” opening along the back side edge and do not pin the top edge. Sew it together.
Slide the liner over the exterior pieces so they meet the right side. Combine all the seams. Pin along the top edge and sew.
Turn the stocking right side out through the opening in the liner and the whip opening closed.
Push the liner inside the stocking and it's done!
