Expand a stock pattern to 3' size or draw your own oversized stock pattern.
Fold the chenille material, either right sides together or wrong sides together. Pin the oversized template directly to the material. If your material has a design on it, keep that in mind when designing your pattern.
Cut around the template. If your material has edges or fringe around it, cut it separately and use it to trim the top of your stocking. Sew the edge or fringe to the top of the stocking before sewing the two sides together.
Place your pattern pieces (right sides) together, pin and sew. Sew 1/4 to 1/2 inch around, leaving the top of the stocking open. If the material is too thick to run through your sewing machine, hand stitch the edge corners to the top of the stocking.
Turn the stocking right side out and run a 1/2-inch top stitch around the outline of the toe and heel of the stocking. This will prevent it from wrinkling when you hang it.

Wrap the old laces around the top for decoration. Place the collar on the front of the stocking (Image 1), under the fringe and hand sew in place. Create a loop for your stocking with a stock chain or ribbon. Hang the stocking from a weighted support to ensure that the stocking does not fall (Image 2).
