Step 1

Break the paint

Paint the wooden circle with an even coat of white paint. Wait for the paint to dry. Then apply another layer if necessary.

Measure and mark

Measure the circumference of the circle. Divide it by five, so you get 5 equal sections. For example, since our circle has a circumference of 25 inches, we will have five 5-inch wedges. Then measure the diameter of the circle and mark the midpoint. Our circle is 8 inches in diameter, so the midpoint is 4 inches.

Measure and mark the shims around the circumference of the circle. Use a pencil to draw a curved line that starts at one of the marks you made on the circumference and ends at the midpoint. Do this around the circle.

Add more swirls and paint

Use a tape measure to mark the midpoint between each curved section, around the circumference of the circle. For our circle, the curved lines are 5 inches apart, so the midpoint would be 2-1/2 inches. (Doing it in this order makes it less confusing, because you'll have fewer marks to keep track of.)

When all the marks have been created, draw a curved line that follows the same curvature as the other lines, towards the center of the circle.

Paint every other wedge in red. Let the paint dry. Then apply another layer.

Cut and secure cellophane

When the paint is dry, cut a piece of cellophane wide enough to completely cover the front and back of the circle, leaving several extra inches on each side.

Flip the circle over and fold both sides of the cellophane over the back. Flip it over and squeeze the wrapper around the circle with your hand. Secure with rope and cut off excess rope.

Pro Tip

Cut off the excess cellophane to be proportional in size to the circle of candy, and your candy decoration is ready to go on display.
