Gently pull 6 to 8 inches of embroidery floss and cut it off the skein. Cut the piece in half and tie around each end of the skein. Tie a knot, wrap it around a few more times to create a nice tie, and tie again with another knot.
Make sure both ends are well wrapped. Trim ends if necessary. Cut the skein in the center to create two tassels.

Download, size and print our handy storage template. Iron both the burlap and muslin fabric. Attach two equal pieces of each fabric to each side of the stocking. Pin the two layers of burlap to the template and cut out the stocking shape. (If you feel more comfortable cutting one piece at a time, go for it.) Then attach the templates to the muslin pieces and cut out the stocking shape.

For the burlap, line the two pieces up on top of each other and sew around the edge, leaving a 1/2" selvedge, the distance from the edge of the fabric to where the needle sews. Sew around the sides and foot , but do not sew the top opening.
For the muslin, fold down the top of the stockings to the outside of the stocking and press lightly with an iron. Lay each piece on top of each other, folded sides out, and sew together leaving a 1" selvedge. Trim with scissors leaving approximately a 1/4" selvedge.
Insert the muslin stocking into the burlap stocking; set it flat by placing your hand inside the muslin as far as it will go. The two pieces should fit nicely together. If not, sew the piece of muslin a little smaller and trim it back to fit.

Pull the threads from the end of the burlap to fringe the edges. Use your fingers to fluff up the fringe. Sew the tassels by hand with a needle and thread. Add a fun ribbon and sew to hang.
