To cut out the sweater pattern, place the top edge of the pattern piece along the bottom hem of your sweater. Cut the front and back of the sweater, around the pattern piece, giving it the front and back parts of the outside.

Also cut two pieces of cotton fabric lining.

Place the front and back sweaters together, and sew around the outer edges. Do not sew the top edge. Just sew on the sides. Then turn the stocking to the right and gently press the sides with your finger.

Lay out the lining, snapping the pieces together, and sew around the side edges. Leave a 5" opening at the bottom of the foot for turning later.

Slide the liner around the outside of your outer sock. Match the side seams along the top edge. Pin together, and sew around the top edge. Thread it clockwise through the bottom opening of your foot liner stocking. Sew the opening closed and push the lining inside the stocking. Use your finger to push out all the inner edges.

Wrap the yarn around your piece of cardboard. Continue wrapping the yarn around the cardboard, lengthwise, until it's nice and thick all the way around. The thicker it is, the bigger the pom..
Jess Abbott
Once you've wound it enough, cut the yarn off the skein at the end. Now take the skein of yarn and tie a tie (not a knot) around the center of your cardboard yarn. Using your scissors, cut the ends of the thread at the end of each side of the cardboard.
Jess Abbott
Gently pull the cardboard out from the center of the pom pom, while keeping all of the yarn in place. Once the cardboard is out, pull on the tie and tie a knot.
Jess Abbott
Repeat the pom process to make your second pom. Then tie those two poms together with an 18" piece of yarn in the center. Decide where you want the two poms to hang (evenly, one lower than the other, etc.), and create a knot in the top center of the chain from the middle strand. The center knot should have a 3" loop..
Jess Abbott
Take your poms, and where you tied the center knot loop, place the knot along the top back seam of your stocking. Sew a straight line back and forth over the yarn knot to secure in place on the stocking.
