Use large plastic buttons to make this fun embellishment. Personalize with family names for the perfect little handmade Christmas gift.
Arrange the buttons in order of size. Help put the tree together later. You want a few smaller buttons at the bottom of the tree trunk, then the larger buttons get smaller and smaller.
Cut a 20" piece of clear filament rope and then thread the ends through one of the tree trunk buttons.
Press the button all the way down so it is in the center of your filament thread. Add the largest buttons to the bottom of the tree. Add the largest buttons to the bottom of the tree.
Continue threading the buttons, getting smaller and smaller as you go until you've reached the top of your tree. Tie a knot at the top of your thread to keep the buttons from falling out.
Add a charm to make a tree ornament and also add a silver hoop or jump ring so you can hang the ornament. Tie both pieces together at the top of the tree.
To cut the thread, thread the top ends of the string through the tree from the top buttons. Once the ends of the threads come out of the center of the tree, tie them one more time and cut them off. This way no loose ends show anywhere.
Use a permanent marker to write your family names on the side of the buttons to make it a real family tree.
Cut a piece of ribbon and glue it to the silver hoop at the top to hang your ornament.
