Start with a ready made skirt and the sky is the limit on what you can do with some craft felt, jewelry and a hot glue gun.
Most department stores have ready-to-wear blank felt skirts in seasonal colors. You can always make one too. Scalloped edges are a must. You will also need an assortment of craft felt.
A collection of vintage jewel brite ornaments was the inspiration for this tree skirt. These distinct 1960s designs are small foil-lined dioramas often in a diamond shape. The first step is to cut the felt into a hexagon shape.
Use paper to create patterns for the felt. Use classic and simple shapes like angels, trees, French horns, bells, etc.
When you've cut out all of your patterns, lay them out and set them aside.
Use silver canvas sheets to cut slightly smaller hexagons. Divide that into four sections to give the illusion of a diamond. Adhere these to your felt diamonds with glue. Then paste the patterns on top of the glitter canvas.
Paste the appliques on your tree skirt. Feel free to sew or embroider, but the beauty of this skirt is that it is seamless.
The use of glue, sequins and gemstones adorn your tree skirt. The brighter the better. Sequin ribbon by the yard is great for adding trim around the edge of the skirt.

Place your tree skirt around your tree. It's almost too cute to put presents on top, isn't it?
