What better way to keep a memory of baby's first Christmas than to wear something he or she wore that first Christmas? It's easy to recycle baby mittens into a beautiful Christmas decoration.
Use a fabric marker or pen to lightly draw the baby's initial as an outline so she can hand embroider the mitten.
Cut a piece of embroidery floss about 30" long. Embroidery floss is usually made up of six separate cords. Separate the floss so that you only work with three pieces of the cord at a time.
Thread the needle and tie a knot in the other end of the silk.
On the inside of her mitten, push the needle out, starting at one end of your initial sketch.
She continues to go back and forth with her needle, while she covers the entire initial, moving from top to bottom..
Rethread the needle when you run out of thread and continue until you finish the entire initial thread.
Once you have finished covering your initial sketch and embroidering it completely, tie a knot in the back of the thread to finish and cut the remaining thread.
We used photos that were printed on my home printer. But real photos will work too. Roll the photos up nice and tight and secure with a little embroidery floss tied around the center to hold it in place. Slide photos inside the embroidered mitt.
If the mittens already have a string attached to them, simply tie a knot between the strings along the top and you're done. If not, cut a small 10" piece of yarn and secure the ends of the yarn to each mitt with a few stitches back and forth to secure.
Now that your embroidered keepsake mittens are complete, they're ready to be the perfect addition to your tree or a sentimental gift for family members.
