Looking for a fun and alternative way to do your Halloween costume? Try cardboard. By upcycling this fabulous material, you can make a variety of awesome affordable Halloween costumes like this one-man canoe.
Cut a piece of cardboard in the shape of a long rectangle. Draw a curved edge at the bottom of both sides. Cut out the shapes with a box cutter or scissors. Repeat for the second piece of cardboard.
Lay two cardboards on top of each other and hot glue the curved side edges. DO NOT GLUE the bottom of the can/carton closed. You will need a leg opening.
Cut two identical trapezoidal shapes for the boat benches. Glue the trapezoids to the sides at the top of the canoe, pushing the canoe open. Hold the pieces in place for a few minutes to allow the hot glue to dry.
To make the paddle, cut two half oval shapes. They can be joined on one side. Slide the cardboard tube into the center of one of the half ovals and apply hot glue around the top edge. Place the other oval half on top and press down firmly to allow the glue to dry for a few minutes. Repeat for the other side of the paddle.
Almost done... Now you have an adorable cardboard canoe and paddle!
Spray paint the entire canoe and paddle in a well-ventilated area (outdoors). Let dry completely. Use white paint and a brush to decorate with numbers and/or stripes.
To add the canoe straps, so your little one doesn't have to hold them in place all night, simply cut two 20" strips of rubber. Glue each end of the elastic to the inner canoe, crisscrossing them in the center. /P>
The DIY Cardboard Canoe is a cute handmade costume for kids that your little one will love paddling on Halloween night.
