This has to be one of the most adorable costumes...ever. Turn a bunch of cheap feather boas into a fun flamingo costume for your little one. Pair it with a pink dress and tights, and you've got a unique handmade Halloween costume that won't break the bank.
Cut a piece of ribbon approximately 50" long.
Cut the boas into halves, thirds, or quarters, depending on the length of your boa. You want your cut boa strip to be twice the length of your finished skirt.
Tie one of the boa strips around the ribbon in a simple knot. Let the two sides hang down evenly.
Repeat this process with all the boa strips until you have a full skirt. It's okay if the skirt doesn't turn all the way around, as long as it covers the front.
Push all the boa strips into the center of the ribbon and tie the ribbon in the back around your waist for the feather skirt.
To make the flamingo head, pull one of the boa strips from the skirt around the top.
Cut two circles out of felt. We use the tape backing as a circle template and simply trace around it with the marker.
Cut beak shapes from extra pieces of felt.
Lay beak shapes on top of each other and sew them together. Use hot glue if the needle and thread are of no use.
Repeat this so you have two mirror image flamingo heads. Use a black marker to draw in the eyes.
Place the flamingo heads around the top of the boa strip, wrong sides together, sandwiching the boa inside the flamingo head. Pin all around and sew.
To ensure that the flamingo head stays firmly in place on your shoulder, simply attach a safety pin to the back of the head and fasten the shirt when worn.
Combine it with a pink dress and colorful tights, and your child will be feathered and fabulous!
