Mason jars have gone wild! These sturdy glass jars are everywhere:wine glasses, soap dispensers, makeshift candle holders, wedding reception tables, pantry storage, and more and more. If you love throwback jars or want to tease their return, this Mason Jar Halloween costume is easy to pull off.
Draw the shape of a mason jar using a blue colored pencil on a foam core board. When you're happy with it, mark with a blue permanent marker and erase any stray pencil marks.
Print the MASON JAR template on blue cardstock paper and cut it out. Please note that the letters are printed upside down, so the lines will be hidden on the back.
Cut out the mason jar shape using a craft knife and scissors.
Glue the MASON JAR letters onto the front of the foam core jar.
Wrap the clear vinyl around the Mason jar, trimming the curves as you go. Stick the vinyl on the back with masking tape.
Tape the top back of the jar to slide it over the wearer's neck like a necklace.
To make the band-inspired hat and Mason jar lid, cut a 15" circle from the foam core. Cut 1" to 2" squares from the remaining foam core. Then cut a ring from the cardstock plastic with a 15" diameter and 11" hole to create the Mason jar band.
Create a slightly raised edge by gluing the square scraps around the perimeter of the foam core circle. Then glue the cardstock ring on top.
Cut two 3-1/2” strips lengthwise from the plastic cardstock. Tape the pieces together to make the border and use a glue gun to secure it to the edge of the foam circle.
Cut small rectangles out of scrap cardboard and glue around the edge of the band to add the ridges. Glue a 1/2" strip of plastic construction paper around the bottom.
Spray paint the lid silver and let dry. We used three light coats of hammered silver spray paint.
Cut two slits in the top of the hat, the distance between them should be about the width of the wearer's head. Attach a safety pin to the end of the tape. Put it in one slot below and over the top and down through the other slot so that the ends are inside the hat.
Add some comfortable padding for your head with an old piece of towel, washcloth, or batting. Stick or tape securely. Put on the hat and tie a bow under the wearer's chin.
Grab a real mason jar to go with your costume and impress all your friends! Add some sparkle by using metal rings for the bracelets.
