Arrange the papers across a flat, level surface until a cohesive, balanced color scheme takes shape. For a monochromatic approach, consider layering different shades and tints of the same color. For more of a multicolored effect, mix shades that have high contrast. TIP:For a feminine look, stick with muted, pastel colors mixed with neutrals like taupe, brown, or gray.
Using square paper is important as rosebuds are perfectly round in shape. Rectangular papers require cutting, while square papers fold easily into spheres. The first step in the process is to fold each sheet of square paper in half.
Once the paper has folded evenly in half, fold it back into quarters.
Once folded into quarters, use scissors to round the edge.
Unfold the paper to reveal a circular shape. If the paper has created a perfect sphere, it's time to move on to the next step; however, if the result is more oblong or ovular, it's best to start over until a perfect circle is created.
Starting at the outer edge and working toward the center, cut solid circles into spirals.
As you get to the end of the circle while cutting spirals, leave an ovular end tab about 1 inch in diameter. This is the part of each paper rosebud that will hold the spirals together with glue.
Starting with the end of the spiral opposite the ovular end tab, tightly roll the paper until the rosebud formation begins to take shape.
While the inner part of the rosebud will be pressed down firmly, the outer part will start to sit looser and looser.
Fold the spiral so that the inner circle is flat on the bottom of the rosebud.
Pull the end tabs back and add a dab of hot glue.
Firmly press all the layers of rosebud until the glue has dried.
Once a rosebud is complete, be sure to mix the colors and/or patterns by alternating the papers.
When all the rosebuds have been built, unroll the grosgrain ribbon and cut it into 7-foot strips.
Attach the rosebuds directly to the grosgrain ribbon with a hot glue gun.
