You don't need to know how to sew to make a fabulous handmade pillow! His and hers store-bought pillows are easy to make with a few stencils and handmade paint.
Fabric paint is preferred, but if you don't plan on putting your pillowcases in the washing machine, you can use other types of paint.
On two separate sheets of paper, write in large, bold letters, “HIS” and “HERS”. He can print this from his computer using a nice classic font, if he wishes. Once you have the letters you want, tape the paper to the window. Cut a large piece of freezer paper, at least 2” larger than your letters on all sides, and glue directly over the HIS or HERS signs with the shiny side of the freezer paper. Using a pen or pencil, trace around your words.
Remove the freezer paper and place it on a cutting mat. Using the craft knife, cut around the edges of all of your letters until half of the letters have been removed from the freezer paper.
Remove the pillowcase you bought at the store and iron it. With the pillowcase right side up (the side you want to put the letters on), place the freezer paper with the cut letters shiny side down. Iron the freezer paper directly onto the pillowcase, until all the edges adhere to the pillowcase.
Take a piece of aluminum foil and insert it into the center of your pillowcase. This will be to protect the back of your pillowcase from paint spillage.
Turn the pillowcase right side up and make sure the foil is firmly under the letters. Using some fabric paint and a sponge brush, carefully apply the paint to the pillow where the letters used to be in the center of the freezer paper.
Repeat for another pillow, and let dry.
Now slide the pillow back inside, and enjoy!
