How to Make Evergreen Wedding Favors and Table Settings

Introduction

We turned glass jars into wedding favors that also served as centerpieces and table assignments. To make favors, the recycled jars are filled with evergreens, then decorated with pretty paper and twine. A tag with the guest's name and their table number is attached on one side, and on the other side of the tag are instructions on how to plant and care for the tree.

Storing the glass jars

Save old glass jars. Clean them. Soak them in warm water to remove the labels.

Fill the jars

Add clear glass marbles to the bottom of the jars, about 1 inch deep. Add potting soil to the jars then insert the evergreen and more soil to top it off. Clean excess dirt from the outside of the jar.

Decorate with paper and ribbon.

Cut pieces of wrapping paper to size to surround the jar. Glue the paper to the jar and then along the seam. Wrap a large ribbon around the jar (a dot of glue on the back helps keep it in place). Then add a smaller ribbon intertwining the bows.

Create a tag

Make a tag for each favor and include instructions on how to plant the sapling and how to care for it. The other side of the tag can be used to assign guests to a table number. Brown construction paper found at craft stores works best. Use mailing labels in Word to create the labels, then print them and punch a hole in the corner for the string.
