Learn how to create a rya weave that acts as your unicorn head. Using simple tools and mesh fabric, you can create fluffy rugs, pillows, or in this case a wall hanging.

The real fun of this project starts after spinning, when you transform your rya knit into a unicorn. Decorations like flowers, pom-poms, and even a felt horn bring this magical wall to life.

Decide the size of your unicorn and draw a design. Using the embroidery frame as a guide, lay the mesh fabric on top and trace your pattern by marking the marks on the mesh.

Using an rya tool, start making several bundles of cream threads. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. These tools help you pack in bulk and in the same size.

The number of times you wrap the thread around your tool will determine how big your bundles are. Follow package directions and cut tool packages.

Following the marks you made on the mesh fabric, secure the bundles with a double knot.

Continue until the entire mesh piece is covered. Using the excess edges of the fabric slip into the embroidery hoop and trim off the excess edges.

Flip the unicorn head over and make sure all the bundles are relatively smooth and flat. Crop when necessary.

Cut long strands of colored yarn. Attach it to the embroidery hoop (with a needle if necessary to go through it) and secure with a lark's head knot. Continue this over the middle of the embroidery hoop.

Cut the colorful thread so that it gives the unicorn a mane.

To make the horn, cut a piece of yellow felt in the shape of a party hat (wide triangle).

Using hot glue, roll the speaker into a cone shape. Batting stuff. Wrap the felt cone with glitter yarn or pipe cleaners for the look of a crooked horn.

Attach the horn to the top of the fabric with hot glue. Use faux flowers, scrapbooking embellishments, and pom poms to give the unicorn a crown. Then make an ear out of pink and white felt.

All that's left to do is give the unicorn an eye made from yarn or pipe cleaners. Then hang on your unicorn in your favorite tween's room. This rya fabric goes perfectly with a modern wall mural.
