Pruning lavender, santolina and rosemary

Lavenders are not pretty! What to do ? Everything you need to know about pruning lavender, santolina and rosemary.

Winter has passed by and Mediterranean shrubby plants, such as lavender , the santolins , rosemary , whatever the variety, tend to lose their leaves at the base, even over a good part of the length of the branches, to keep only a colored tuft at the end.

If the santolina manages quite well to start from the base after a severe pruning, it is not the same with the lavender.

New growth may appear on bare wood , provided that the branch in question still has a little leaf at its end to make a sap call .

A branch of lavender, even if it is still green but no longer has any leaves because it has been cut too short, will have great difficulty in restarting.

To avoid this, lavender, santolina and rosemary should be pruned at least twice a year , slightly and especially after flowering. The tufts will be tighter, your plants more beautiful. Round in shape, trimmed on the edge or with a free rustic side, your Mediterraneans deserve a visit to the hairdresser.
