Today , a bit of technique!
When you print a photo to put it in an album for example, it has a format of 15 cm by 10 cm in 300 dpi (this is a standard photo format). You are looking at it from a distance of about 25 cm.
This is usually the format of the photos you take with your camera. (I'm not talking about photos taken with your phone!)
In the decoration, it is not the same thing. When printing a Jumbo Size photo , you are not looking at it closely, and the resolution is lower.
The resolution…. But what is it, then ? It is precisely this barbaric term “DPI” mentioned above. DPI. It is the ratio between the number of pixels (the sooooo many dots that make up a scanned photo) and the area (which is in inches, or 2.54 cm).
DPI stands for Dots Per Inch. Translation ? DPI:Dots Per Inch.
Alright, let's calm down! I show you an example:
Here is an image of 15 cm by 10 cm at 300 dpi:
She's beautiful, she's pretty, you can print her on a nice photo paper and put her in a frame on your desk (yes!)
On the other hand, if you want to print it in GIANT (yes!!), for example 4 meters by 2.70 meters (size of our wallpapers and panoramic posters), the resolution will be too low.
See instead:
We notice the pixels. And it's not top top... Bin no.
Unless….
Unless you are looking at this image from afar. About 10 meters.
How ? You don't have a living room of this size? pfff
The solution to print in giant format is therefore to have a photo with high definition (the DPI) and a high format in cm. This image, once printed and placed in your living room, will be viewed from 2 meters away.
The 4mx3m ads you see in the streets, meant to be seen from very far away, often have very low resolution.
Oh sure, you shouldn't put that in your room. Finally, if you really want .... okay.
