On January 20, 2018, Dutch growers will set up a huge picking garden with more than 200,000 tulips on Dam Square in Amsterdam. From 1 p.m. everyone can pick a bunch of tulips for free for a cheerful spring atmosphere at home. Be on time because it's gone!
The tulip originates from Turkey but has been inextricably linked to the Netherlands since the 16th century. The tulip has become a national symbol and every year about 2 billion tulips from the Netherlands find their way into vases all over the world. In total there are more than 3,000 species that differ from each other in terms of color and shape. For example, let yourself be surprised by double-flowered tulips or with pointed or fringed petals. The color palette is just as varied:from (almost) black to red-yellow flamed or soft pink.
