Saturday 15 January 2022 it is finally time for a typical Dutch party:National Tulip Day. It is the official start of a new cut tulip season. For the 10th time, tulip growers are creating a gigantic picking garden with around 200,000 tulips in different colors on Dam Square in Amsterdam. From 13.00 everyone can pick tulips for free (on =gone). In 2022 the theme is 'Share happiness'. During the free event, the then-current COVID19 measures will be enforced.
In the picking garden, everyone is allowed to pick not one, but two bunches of tulips for free. A cheerful forest for yourself and for someone else. After all, shared joy is double joy. The theme is also reflected in the spectacular and colorful design of the picking garden.
Are you unable to come to Amsterdam? Fortunately, the start of a new tulip season is celebrated throughout the Netherlands. Sharing campaigns are organized via Instagram (@Tuliptime.info) and Facebook (@Tuliptime.info). In addition, many florists and supermarkets are organizing special tulip promotions in January 2022 that are all about 'Share happiness'.
National Tulip Day has existed since 2012. Every year, the start of a new cut tulip season is celebrated on the third Saturday of January. Until the beginning of May, Dutch tulips are widely available in more than 1,000 different varieties. From bright yellow to dark purple, from lily-shaped to fringed and from two-tone to double-flowered. Tulip Day is an initiative of Dutch tulip growers. Together with family, friends and volunteers, they will build the picking garden, subject to the COVID19 measures in force at the time.
