The layout of a garden

Planning a garden, where to start?

Making or redoing a garden requires time for reflection before starting the work. Even if a garden is not immutable, there are arrangements that we do not redo every month. Access roads and plantations of hedges or fruit trees are put in place for a long time.

To avoid location errors, the first question to ask is:who will use the garden? The second question that arises from this:and to do what?

The garden is considered the fifth room in the house . In a home, the living room, bedroom or bathroom have well-defined functions. And it also depends on the composition of the family and the activities of the occupants. The living room or the bedroom can for example be used as an office, or a playroom...

The garden follows the same path. A family of three children and a dog does not have the same needs as a retired couple without grandchildren. Also to be determined, the time you can devote to your garden.

First development to plan, traffic voices for vehicles, for pedestrians.

Second layout:views to keep, those to hide .

Third group of developments to be determined, future construction :Barbecue, terrace, pond, swimming pool, garden sheds, pergolas, veranda, greenhouse, portico, football field...

Fourth group:plant uses; vegetable garden, orchard, decorative flower beds, hedges, shade trees.

Once you have listed the future developments, you have to go into detail. How large should the garden shed, vegetable garden, terrace, etc. be? Where will they be placed?

It remains to put all this on a scale plan, in order to see the feasibility. This is to avoid having the fruit trees too close to the swimming pool, the garden shed in the middle of the vegetable patch and the terrace encroaching on the entrance to the garage. (It's hardly exaggerated)

The fundamental questions on the plant species to choose, according to the soil, the environment, and… the budget, will come in a second step.
