Easy and affordable, these stylish curtains make a big impact in any space. The painting canvas creates a slightly stiff drape, but hangs beautifully, and the use of grommets means no sewing is required!
Create a template for your chevron design using cardstock. Cut a 15" x 16-1/2" rectangle. Then create two triangles by dividing diagonally.
Align the two 16-1/2” edges and pin them together. This will give you half of the chevron design.
Lay the drop cloth on a smooth, protected surface. Outline your pattern with painter's tape. Start with the template pointing toward the center, 12 inches from the top of the canvas. Place painter's tape just outside the top and bottom edge of your template. Flip the template over and repeat the taping on the other side. Continue flipping and taping until you've completed a full row of zigzags.
Start the next row of zigzags, 15 inches below the first. If you align the template two inches above your bottom line, you can find your first top line and continue from there. Repeat until you have three sets of zigzags.
Before you start painting, make sure the tape is firmly in place and the surface under the canvas is well protected. Optional:Add a small amount of water to the paint to make it go further and dry thinner. Use a foam roller to paint inside the three sets of zigzags. Make sure you're only painting between the largest rows of zigzags, skipping the thinnest rows.
Remove all the tape and let the canvas dry. Repeat the whole process with the other piece of canvas.
To attach the grommets, fold the top of the canvas down six inches and press with a hot iron.
Using the template that came with the grommets, mark eight circles 1-1/2" from the top of the fold and 6-1/4", with the first and last grommets one inch from the edge. Make sure to use an even amount of buttonholes.
Cut out the marked circles being careful to cut only inside your drawing.
Place the clamp side at the back and the smooth side at the front, centered over the hole. Press the buttonhole together. Repeat for all eight buttonholes and the second curtain.
The light that filters through this bold design is truly beautiful. No one will believe you made these curtains out of drop cloth.
