Do you want to embark on the adventure of composting?
But the compost bins sold on the market are not cheap...
And when you're not a handyman like me, it's not easy to make one yourself!
Fortunately, I found a super simple way to make your compost bin in 10 min timer and without spending €1.
And all this without a drill and without screws!
The trick is to use wooden pallets and plastic clamps . Look, it's quite simple:
- 4 wooden pallets
- 18 plastic clamps of 30 cm
1. First make sure you find a flat place to install the compost bin.
2. Next, take two palettes and stand them on their sides so that they form a 90° angle.
3. Secure them with zip ties. If the ties are not long enough, tie two together.
4. Do the same on the other side with the third pallet, also placing it at a right angle.
5. Finally, attach the fourth pallet only on one side, because it will serve as a door. So you must be able to rotate it.
And There you go ! Your compost bin made of pallets is already ready to be used :-)
Easy, fast and economical, right?
Still better than having to buy a compost bin, right?
Fasteners must be tight enough to hold the pallets together.
If you are a bit of a do-it-yourselfer, you can fix the door with hinges so that it opens even more easily.
Me, I like that my bin is also easy to dismantle if I decide to move it. So the zip ties are perfect for me.
Once built, layer your waste in the bin, making sure to add water between each layer.
I started with a bottom layer of shredded cardboard.
Then I added my kitchen and garden scraps.
Now I even add horse manure that my neighbor gives me. And I also add straw to rebalance everything.

Small local businesses, such as convenience stores, are a good place to pick up pallets for free.
Indeed, large companies often already have people in charge of recovering them...
But small businesses that only have one or two don't know what to do with them.
So they are often very happy to be able to get rid of it easily. Do not hesitate to canvass them!
If there is a construction of a house around your place... Do not hesitate to take a look there to ask if they have any.
For this project, also try to find pallets that have the same size to make a square compost bin.
