Recycle a couple of shipping pallets to create an inexpensive umbrella stand for an entryway or cloakroom.
Use a circular saw to remove the deck boards. By using a circular saw, you will have clean edges to work with when building the rectangular storage box.
Using the planks cut from the pallet, measure and mark them to the desired height and width for your container.
Use a circular saw to cut the front and back boards to size.
To secure the front and back panels together, you will need to cut braces from any unused planks. Once measured to the width of the front and back panels, cut to size using a circular saw. Lay the board perpendicular to the front and back panels, then nail it in place with 2" nails and a hammer.
The side panels will be cut at a 45 degree angle. This gives the storage box a geometric wedge shape. Use a straight edge or other plank of wood to create a perfect line across the planks, then mark with a pencil.

Measure unused planks to the top and bottom widths of the side panels, cut to size with a circular saw, then secure with a hammer and 2" nails.
With the help of a friend, assemble the box on a flat, level surface. Next, use the drill to secure the front and back panels to the side panels with 2" wood screws and drill approximately 1/4" from the edges of each panel.
Measure, mark, and cut any unused planks to the width of the bottom of the box. Secure to bottom of front, back, and side panels with drill and 2" wood screws.
