Fold your shirt almost in half, leaving a 1-inch gap, and cut off the bottom. Using your quilting ruler as a guide, cut the strips with a rotary cutter, making sure not to cut through the extra inch of shirt at the fold. Cut all the way down when you get to the sleeve (this will not be part of the ball of fabric).
Starting in the center of your border, cut in the direction of the far corner of the first left border piece. Continue until all the pieces are cut, and you will have one continuous piece of fabric. Form a ball.
To give the planter a more complex design, create a chain effect with a crochet hook.
Wrap crochet fabric around small pots and glue every 3 inches to secure. To make a hanger for your planter, attach long strips of fabric to each side of a pot or a few pots with glue. Show in or out.
