A ruffle jumpsuit is the perfect outfit for having your newborn photos taken. Adding ruffles to the bottom of any jumpsuit is an easy sewing technique that takes less than an hour and costs just a few dollars.
Cut three 2" x 44" strips from the knit fabric.
Sew a gathering stitch in the center of each knit strip, but do not sew the ends. Gently pull on the bobbin threads at each end to make a ruffle.
Repeat for all three strips.
Pin the end of one of the straps to the bottom center of the back of the jumpsuit. Make sure you only go through the back of the jumpsuit, without catching the front.
Start rolling the ruffle into a circle, keeping it very close and placing it in various places around the ruffle.
Use a sewing machine to sew the ruffle in several places around the circle. Be careful to only sew on the back of the jumpsuit, do not sew across the front. A few back and forth stitches at various points, every inch around is a good rule of thumb and is enough to secure the ruffle to the shirt.
Clip all the threads, and now you should have this.
Continue adding the other ruffle strips until you have your desired ruffled butt.
There's something about those little bums that makes everyone smile..
