Bake a white cake with any recipe or box mix. Let cool completely. Gather colored icing in each color of the rainbow (available in the baking aisle of the grocery store), white icing, a four-leaf clover paper template, and golden sanding sugar.

Cut the top dome of the cake. Discard or reserve for snack.

Cut each cake into several thin layers with a sharp serrated knife. Place the first layer in the center of a plate..

Apply a layer of purple frosting on top of the cake layer on the plate. Top with another cake layer, then apply a layer of blue frosting.

Continue the icing/cake layering process until every color of the rainbow is present and the top cake layer is on top of the red frosting. Chill in the fridge to firm up.

Mix up a batch of white icing or use store bought for your convenience.

Cover the cake with a thin layer of white icing. Cool again.

Once the crumb coat is done, apply a thicker layer of frosting. Then pour a small amount of gold sanding sugar into a bowl. Make sure you have the paper clover template handy.

Pour the sanding sugar into a fine mesh sieve. Then, holding the paper template over the center of the cake, gently shake the sifter to sprinkle sugar over the top of the cake.

Remove the paper shamrock template to reveal a shamrock on top of the cake.

Cut into the cake with a sharp knife to reveal the rainbow layers, and make a lucky wish!
