Plasticine is always a big hit with kids.
Here is an original idea that will delight them:homemade modeling clay. It's simple, economical and fun.
A recipe for modeling clay to make yourself, original isn't it?
It's easy to make and my kids love getting their hands dirty.
Here is my homemade recipe for a non-toxic, soft and fluffy batter.
Contents
- 135 g of flour (the equivalent of a mustard glass)
- ½ glass of salt mustard
- 1 mustard glass of hot water
- 1 teaspoon of cooking oil (sunflower for example)
- ½ glass of cornstarch mustard
- food coloring (pastry section of your supermarket)
1. I mix the flour, cornstarch and salt in a bowl.
2. I dilute the dye with hot water in a bowl.
3. I pour this colored water into my salad bowl and mix well.
4. I add my two spoonfuls of oil.
5. I put this paste in a saucepan and heat over very low heat, stirring constantly. The dough is done when you have difficulty stirring it.
6. I let it cool a bit to knead it. Thus, it will keep all its elasticity.
And there you have it, you have made your own homemade modeling clay :-)
One last piece of advice: let your dough dry for half a day before storing it in an airtight container.
You can renew this preparation to obtain different colors of modeling clay.
Knowing that we all have flour, salt and edible oil in our kitchen cupboards, all I have to do is buy to make my homemade modeling clay:
- 1 packet of cornstarch, around €1.70 for 400g (I'm only going to use 1/2 a cup)
- food coloring, I can find three different colors in the supermarket for €2 for 18 g (4 to 5 drops are enough for my preparation).
Enough to make dozens and dozens of pots of homemade modeling clay.
20 pots of “ready to use” modeling clay bought on the market cost me an average of 20 €.
So I save more than 16 € from the first investment in raw materials.
