Terrazzo is a hot decoration trend. Typically used in floor or wall treatments, terrazzo also appears in accessories. Terrazzo is made from pieces of marble, quartz, granite, or glass in a matrix of concrete or epoxy resin. The chips can be any size, and the matrix and aggregate can be any color, allowing for so many design possibilities!

To create your low-tech terrazzo planters, you'll need Oracal 451 vinyl, which can be found at craft stores near die-cutting machine supplies. It's cheap and comes in many colors and textures. It has an adhesive backing that sticks to many surfaces. Once applied, it is mostly permanent. The only way to get it out is to use a blade to scrape it off.

Cut the vinyl into small pieces. Twist the scissors in random directions to get various sizes and shapes.

Repeat with different colors of vinyl. Spray the terracotta pot and let it dry well.

Peel off the vinyl backing and place it on the surface of the pot. Start with the large pieces of vinyl, then fill in the gaps with smaller pieces.

Keep filling in the gaps with smaller pieces until you get a pattern you like.

There is no set rule for creating a terrazzo pattern. The pattern itself is random which makes this project easy to do. These little terrazzo pots look great with a small succulent. Create two or three for your home.
