A custom envelope cover can be made to fit any size pillow / cushion insert. This type of cushion cover requires minimal sewing and has no buttons or zippers. It's so easy to make you swap covers often.
Pre-wash and dry the fabric before you begin.

Measure the length and width of the pillow insert you plan to use. For the width of the cushion, add 1/2 inch for a seam allowance. For the length, double this width and add 3 inches to allow for envelope overlap.

Transfer these measurements to your fabric and cut.

Sew a 1/4-inch hem on the two short ends of your fabric. These will be the opening edges of your envelope.

With the right side up, fold the fabric in half making sure the double folded edges overlap by 3 inches to create the envelope opening.

Pin the sides of the cover together and sew a 1/4-inch seam down each side of the cushion cover.

Turn the cushion cover right side out. Give the cover a good press to remove wrinkles and plump the pillow insert.
