Using a paste brush, apply a base of wallpaper adhesive to an area of the wall approximately 2 square feet. (It's best to work on a small area at a time to prevent the adhesive from drying too quickly.) Wear rubber gloves to protect skin from adhesive.
Lay out pieces of paper in a random mosaic pattern, putting them together like a puzzle to cover most of the surface. Select larger pieces to form a bottom layer. With most of the area covered, add more adhesive on top of the bottom layer, then add more sheets of paper.
With a softer plastic, remove any wrinkles and make sure the edges and corners are all attached and flat. Continue adding layers of paper until the wall surface is completely hidden.
Once the entire wall has been covered, prepare a glaze by mixing a small amount of brown acrylic paint in a can of polyurethane. Make sure the ingredients are well mixed. Apply a thick layer of polyurethane enamel on the wall covering.
The variation in tones resulting from the layers of paper creates a beautiful patina effect. This finish is ideal for a room that uses warm, rich earth tones.
