We gave some of the thrift store frames a shabby-chic finish and then stuffed them with cork and some pretty fabric to create a stylish new way to display photos and keepsakes.
We use two photo frames of the same size, but with different details around the edge. Remove the glass and cardboard backing. Sand the wood so the finish comes off a bit.
Apply a thin layer of paint to the frame. If you want to do a shabby-chic finish to the frame, don't worry about covering the frame completely.
When the paint is almost dry, use a rag to wipe away some of the paint so the finish below shows through.
Place the frame on top of the fabric. Cut the fabric along the outside of the frame. The extra fabric will be folded over the back of the inner carton.
Use iron-on letters to spell a name or message on fabric. Make sure to position the letters so they don't sit under the frame.
Following the instructions on the package to iron the letters onto the fabric.
Use the back of the frame cardboard as a guide to mark and cut the cork. Use spray adhesive to attach the cork to the cardboard.
Apply spray adhesive to the fabric and then place it on the cork. Make sure the letters are placed where you want them. Smooth the fabric with your hands to remove any air bubbles. Fold the excess fabric over the back of the cork.
Press the fabric down to tie off the air pockets.
Carefully place fabric cover cork into frame and press down on frame thumbtacks to secure.
