This cool kid's hide and seek is as much fun to make as it is to play. With a single trip to the hardware store, you can get everything you need for this drop cloth teepee.
Fold the canvas in half lengthwise. Starting at the folded edge, mark six inches from the edge on the folded side and 20 inches from the edge on the folded side. Use one of your stakes as a guide and draw a diagonal line from one point to another. From that bottom point, on the folded edge mark over 10 inches and mark 38 inches from the line on the folded edge, draw a diagonal line connecting your points. Repeat in reverse, mark 10 inches from the line at the fold and 38 inches along the hem, draw a diagonal line.
Cut along all of your lines and along the folded edge.
Hemming all raw edges. Fold raw edges under 1/4" and iron, fold over another 1/4" and press to hide raw edge. Stitch along its pressed edge.
Create the front panel by overlapping the two small panels by one inch. Pin top down 24 inches and sew together.
Match two panels with the short sections on top and the wrong sides facing up. Sew together with a 1/4" seam allowance.
Fold the fabric over the new seam you just made so that the right sides are facing. Mark a line 2-1/2" from the stitched edge. Pin and stitch that line to create a channel for the stakes. Repeat with all remaining panels.
Turn the teepee so the channels are on the inside and drive the stakes through.
Pick up the teepee and adjust the stakes until you have a nice even shape, tie the stakes together. First tie the rope around a stake, then wrap all the stakes many times and secure with a simple knot.
For added fun, let your little one decorate their teepee with paint. Washable paint is a great option if you want to be able to change the design, but use acrylic or latex paint if you want your design to be permanent.
