The material differs depending on the complexity of the cardboard furniture you want to make. However, you can make a simple piece of furniture with basic materials such as a craft knife, a large metal ruler, a glue gun, a pencil, a roll of gummed craft… and cardboard! To avoid wasting time with cardboard that is too fragile, sort it out when you go hunting for cardboard. Get rid of wet, holey or dirty boxes immediately. The ideal? The double corrugated box type moving box. To find cardboard, put your entourage to work or go around the shops. Sports shops, framers and even windscreen fitters, for example, regularly have their equipment delivered in sturdy boxes.
Start by drawing your furniture, respecting the measurements and symmetries. Overlap three cardboard sheets, and draw on one of them a face of your furniture. Hold these three plates together using the gummed kraft, and cut out the shape of your furniture following the outlines of your drawing. If you want to make a niche in your furniture, cut it out at this time. If you do not want to make a drawer, then you can detach the three profiles. Then, make the crosspieces and proceed with their assembly:you will then obtain a piece of furniture in volume. Finish by pasting cardboard on the sides of the furniture to camouflage the crosspieces.
Cardboard furniture requires patience and concentration:use a pattern for your first creations, because you get lost quickly! Important:Make sure to always place the splines vertically. Otherwise, your furniture may be far too fragile.
