It is quite possible to paint your tiles. This solution should be considered to revamp a coating that has become too old. It avoids the total replacement of a tiling. It is therefore an economical alternative which has the advantage of being easy to implement.
Before starting the operation, first think about choosing the right type of paint. Three criteria will help guide your choice, namely the type of tiling to be renovated, the room and the surface.
Regarding the type of tiling to be repainted, it is good to know that stone, marble, slate or terracotta floors unfortunately cannot be covered with paint because of their porosity. On the other hand, this operation is quite possible on earthenware or stoneware floors.
If you are planning to renovate a floor located in a humid room like the bathroom, do not rush to the first product available. Opt for a special bathroom paint that does not flake under the effect of humidity and offers excellent durability. Finally, choose your paint according to the surface to be worked on, namely a wall, a floor or a worktop.
The first step in the job is to thoroughly clean the coating. All pollutants must be completely eliminated. Pay particular attention to the joints.
Then proceed to stripping. This operation is done with the help of a push broom which has previously been impregnated with acetone or methylated spirit. Be careful, as these products are volatile, they can be dangerous, be sure to ventilate the house well before starting. Also wear suitable footwear, protective gloves and a face mask.
Once this is done, proceed to the rinsing step and then wait for it to dry. Then apply an undercoat using a roller or brush. This product allows the paint to hang well and in the process, it prevents the tiles from absorbing too much. It will help you save money on paint. Finish the operation by applying thin coats of paint. Joints and edges should be painted first.
