A few years ago I had absolutely no choice when it comes to lamps in the house. Whether it was for the living room, the kitchen or the hall, there were really few lamps that made me happy. In recent years, however, that has completely changed and I have already found a number of lamps for our interior that I am really in love with. Also on our new spots in the kitchen. I would like to show you which choice we made for commercials and why I chose them.

Have I changed so much in my taste in lamps, or is there simply much more choice these days when it comes to beautiful spots or lamps in your home? In our old house, when we installed our new kitchen, we just had simple spotlights in the lowered ceiling above the dining table. And a few spots on the wall above the counter top. But I absolutely didn't want that anymore.
I really want to create a cool look in our current kitchen. I actually want a mix of industrial style and a little boho for the friendly touch throughout our house. And certainly for the living room and kitchen I want to continue the same style because we have an open kitchen. We now have two steel interior doors that I am very happy with and load-bearing steel beams that have simply remained in sight. Together, these already provide the sturdy look that we are looking for in our interior. So when renovating and pimping the kitchen, we thought about it carefully and made conscious choices. The concrete dining table and dining table lamps are also part of this.
However, we would not replace the kitchen itself. We did add a few extra cupboards, but the rest of the kitchen remains as it is. White, with a dark counter top. The whole has a calm appearance, which is nice in this space because it is 'only' three meters wide. I thought about making the kitchen black for a while, but in the end I'm glad I didn't. That would have been too dark anyway. Yet we were still looking for a little bit extra industrial in the kitchen and those are our spots from Railspot become.
Good. So I wanted spots in the kitchen, but not ordinary individual spots, rather on a rail for the industrial look. Because we removed the existing scrap ceiling and made a plasterboard ceiling in it, we were also able to move the electricity. No ceiling light point in the middle of the room as you often see. But only spots above the counter top and the lighting of the extractor hood.
So first of all I went looking for spots in the kitchen that I really like. Tough and preferably industrial. The choice quickly fell on black. But I didn't really want round spots like you usually see. At Railspot I found the Kuby GU10. A beautiful cool square black spot † I immediately fell in love with those spots and the choice was made, haha. That can go so fast. I just found it very difficult to determine how we could shape this nicely. Fortunately, the gentlemen of Railspot helped me excellently.
Despite the fact that I ordered them online, they thought along very well with our set-up in the kitchen. You can also go to the showroom, but that was not really close for us. And we never have time to spare anyway, so I preferred to do this online. So I sent the above photos of our situation to Railspot and indicated my own ideas.
They already returned with feedback on the rail design, number of spots and the right parts.
The spotlights in the kitchen are primarily intended to work well at the counter. When cutting vegetables, for example, I think good light is important. And then you actually also want to get light from above and from the front. That way you won't be bothered by shadow.
We have therefore chosen to hang the rail with spots at 30 centimeters from the wall, on all sides. By making a quick drawing with the rails drawn in, you can easily calculate the lengths of the rails. You can still customize the rails yourself, but you can also have them custom made by Railspot, which is very handy. Everything was delivered tailor-made.
As soon as the kitchen was ready (old wall removed, extractor hood demolished, new extractor hood put in and everything plastered) we could get started with the spots. Frank had the rail up in no time! By the way, it was nice that I was there to hold it in place for the long sides, but attaching the rail is a case of 'a apple egg'. Frank then connected the lighting wire to the rails. We let the wire come out of the ceiling in two places and connected it to the rails. Perfect! And then the funniest job started. Clicking the spots. That was also super easy.
The system is designed to be ready with a few easy actions. So I could easily click in the spots myself. The only thought here was determining where I wanted the black spots in the kitchen. Partly above the counter top, but also partly towards the wall to get some indirect mood light. If you want to know more about this, take a look at my tips for making a lighting plan. I did that for our entire ground floor. I can also move them very easily if I want.
In addition to the beautiful track lighting, we also opted for Philips Hue lighting in the spots. By applying smart lighting, the spots automatically switch on when it gets dark outside. We have set them up so that they now switch on automatically around 8.30 pm and in the autumn and winter we move the time to earlier in the evening.
Do you also work with Philips Hue? Then it is also worth considering purchasing the Google Home. These work wonderfully together. The spots in the kitchen switch on automatically as I mentioned above, but with a dark day all I have to do is shout 'Ok Google, kitchen lighting on' ... and go, our rail lighting in the kitchen switches on.
In the end I am really happy with the end result. Even though I already had in mind how I wanted the spots in the kitchen, it was still nice to be able to exchange ideas with an expert. If you also want track lighting with spotlights in your kitchen, but you are not sure how exactly, ask them to draw up a design for you. Or check out their Pinterest page for more ideas. Who knows, maybe you will have such a cool rail hanging from your ceiling in a while!
In any case, I hope I was able to give you some inspiration and enjoy the result yourself.
