The past decade has been turbulent. Civil wars, terrorist attacks and financial crises have strained the quality of life around the world. However, there are a number of cities around the world where citizens are happy, social conditions are good, and economies are growing. The Economist publishes an annual index of the world's most livable cities. At the top of the list of the most livable cities, Melbourne holds the top spot for the seventh year in a row, followed by Vienna and Vancouver. Toronto is in fourth place, followed by Calgary, Canada and Adelaide, Australia in joint fifth place.
