Make your own pillows? Super fun to do!

I already gave myself and the rest of my family a little Valentine's gift by printing a pillow with 'Love you'. Cute huh. By the way, I'm all for it, it's a lot of fun to do and with the Cricut it's also very easy to come up with all kinds of variations that you can print on your pillow. I have already made 2 which I will explain below. And I'm not done yet, I'm going to make more!

As mentioned, I printed the pillow myself with text that I had cut with my Cricut Maker. I used a nice black glitter iron on that fits very well with the style of the cushions that I would like to have on my new sofa. After cutting out the texts, I ironed them onto the pillowcase with the Cricut Easypress mini and I was done!

As simple as I describe it above, it is as simple as printing this pillow yourself. Especially if you use a simple text such as the 'Love you' text below that I initially made on my first pillow.

Printing iron on (flex) with the Cricut Easypress mini

The Cricut Easypress mini is very easy to use. You put the plug in the socket and press the button on the side to heat. There are three positions. Pressing once is the least warm setting, pressing twice is the middle setting, and pressing three times is the warmest setting. The on/off button is initially orange, until it has warmed up sufficiently and is ready for use. Then it is green (just like the waves of the heat settings). This is already the case after about 10 seconds.

Now you can start pressing. The first time (with the Love you pillow) I placed a tea towel in between with printing, but later I switched to baking paper. That works a bit better.

Provide a somewhat harder surface when pressing. Place the textile to be printed on it, in this case the cover of my pillow. Place the letters the way you want them. Place baking paper over it and press the Easypress mini onto it. Press each piece well (press) and hold it (about 15 seconds). After I've had the entire text, I turned my pillowcase over and also kept the Easypress on it from the back.

Then the pillow could go directly on the couch! Make sure that you have washed the pillowcase beforehand, then you know for sure that it is clean and that the image can best remain in place.

The above 'valentine pillow' is therefore very easy to make. I had the text cut out for my Cricut Maker and first designed it to the correct size in Design Space. By the way, I used the font 'Amatic Sc', a free font in Design Space. A nice fragile font that allowed me to create a subtle text.

First, I loaded a template into Design Space that was the same size as my pillowcase. This way I could design the letters to the right size and then have them cut.

Note:If you want to have letters or images cut in Iron on, don't forget to mirror your text in Design Space. You have them cut upside down so that you can finally press them correctly on your pillow.

Printing-pillow with geometric-hummingbird

After my first self-printed pillow, I got the hang of it. So my next project was a geometric hummingbird on my pillow. Not long ago I hung such a wooden hummingbird on the wall. I like this one so much that I thought of wanting a similar variant in the form of a cushion on the couch. After some searching I found out that these cushions are not easy to find in the store. So it's super fun to print a pillow yourself with such a hummingbird and have a very unique item on the couch.

The-method for printing this pillowcase

This pillow was a bit of a chore as the geometric hummingbird has quite a few triangular pieces that had to be picked out, but it worked! I also used the smart iron on black glitter for this. The hummingbird fit perfectly on one sheet.

Printing the hummingbird went again just like above with the Cricut Maker. Then came the biggest job, removing all the triangles. I had to sit down for a while, but in the end it went faster than expected. You have to get some skill and of course have the right tools for it.

These tools to work with are indispensable!

The pillowcases that I used for both pillows were supplied by Cricut itself, but you can get nice affordable pillowcases from Xenos, Kwantum, Dille &Kamille or, for example, Aliexpress.
