Besides that we are (still) busy working, I also like to make something beautiful for the home every now and then. I am therefore looking for inspiration to make a lamp myself from a tree trunk (or a piece of oak beam, I'm not sure about that yet). And of course I don't keep that inspiration to myself, but I like to share it with you!
If you look on Pinterest you will see a lot of ideas for making your own lamp, for example from a tree trunk, but also from concrete or just a piece of rope. I love natural materials to combine with 'my' industrial look so for my own diy I'm thinking that way.
I would like a floor lamp on a wooden lamp base and still doubt about a log, or a piece of oak beam that I still have lying around. I think the lamps of a tree trunk are very beautiful, but I wonder if it is not too rural for us. What do you think?
For example, I really like this one. Just a simple bare tree trunk that you place on a foot and where you twist up a rope with a lamp attached. You can choose a thin rope as above, but you can also find that thick ship rope with a fitting and lamp. You can choose a tree trunk plank as the foot, but you could also pour the wooden tree trunk yourself in a piece of concrete. For example, place it in a low bucket, or a tub that you fill with quick concrete. Relatively easy to make and super original!
If you prefer a smaller version, the above is also a great idea. In this case you just work with a lantern and a candle in it, making it even easier to make. You make the tree trunk itself bare with a knife and you can get the plateau in the store, or you sand a slice of a tree stump completely bare.
Either you buy a lamp base or find one in a thrift store that you will cover with pieces of wood as above.
This lamp is also very simple, which you can make yourself from a tree trunk or a thick branch, but without a base. Just make sure it can just lean into a corner against the wall and it's okay. Twist a string with lights around it, add a plant and you have a beautiful eye-catcher.
Did you think that you always have to work with a separate lamp if you want to make it yourself from a tree trunk? No, it is not! You can also just hang lampshades in it, just check:
The above is similar to the idea I have in my head for making the lamp from a tree trunk myself. Except that I want to use an oak beam for this, which I also made a coffee table out of. Then I make the lamp base of the oak beam, drill a hole in it for a steel tube with a cord. Nice lampshade on it and you're done! I really like this one with cowskin.
I am not looking for a hanging lamp for above the table, I am provided with an industrial variant , but I want to show them to you anyway, because these are also fantastic and not that difficult to make yourself. Find a industrial lamp made of scaffolding tubes better, read this blog.
Whether you make this lamp with a tree trunk, a wooden beam or a round stick, the idea for making this lamp yourself remains the same. The stick hangs from the ceiling with steel cables and the cords are all nicely tensioned as it seems in the sail of a boat.
You can also choose -as above- to let the wires come down in only 2 places (or 1 place) and then let them go over the wooden trunk to the sides. This will give you a slightly looser look.
By choosing a natural-colored cord or rope, you get an even more natural look.
Which type of lamp do you like best?
