Hot wax you will love it as much as your wooden furniture because it is very easy to apply. One of my former clients gave me the trick to pamper my furniture with hot wax.
One of my clients, disabled in one arm, has always had magnificent furniture. Ah his furniture!
Very nice antique country style furniture. When we got home, we thought we were in an antique shop. So, I couldn't resist asking him.
For me, maintaining the wooden furniture seemed tedious to me, but she, with one arm less, worked miracles. Always on the lookout for solutions to make her daily life easier, she shared her secrets with me on how to keep furniture looking like new, without having to spend hours on it.
Before applying the wax, care should be taken to clean the furniture. Because wax doesn't clean, it pampers.
A microfiber and water
Nothing more is needed to clean a piece of furniture. Especially no pschitt , because all it does is stick dust, grime, nicotine and grease under the product layer. After a while the furniture turns black. So my microfiber:
- I wet it,
- I wring it thoroughly, and
- I dust the furniture (regular maintenance, every week, if possible).
If I suspect suspicious places like around the handles, I scrub a little. If it's not pretty-pretty I insist on removing the grime. And if it's really "grr...aaahhhh", I use Laura's recipe.
Only then do we go to the stage that I love
The wax and the brush
Quiet, once a year , and for each piece of furniture, hot wax is applied. It smells good...
- you must first open all the windows on a very sunny day,
- then heat the wax in a bain-marie (without the lid if it is a pot) to make it liquid,
- and finally, apply the wax to the entire surface of the furniture, using a brush.
It's much less tiring than applying with a rag. The fact that it is hot is also an asset to make it penetrate all the interstices. This prevents parasites from finding hiding places that will rot my beautiful furniture.
Then it's up to you to rub it so that it shines. I think it shines enough already. After that may depend on the quality of the wax. But the goal here is still to do as little as possible, all the same.
Choose a paste wax , not a liquid wax. Because being solid in nature, the liquid wax contains many more additives so that it is liquid precisely. They are responsible for this strong smell (turpentine, among others). It's not great for the lungs. My preference is for natural beeswax in microbeads without additives which can be found at Amazon.
If you have any tips for cleaning or protecting your beautiful furniture, feel free to share in the comments. It can be useful for girlfriends. Because I'm in my period painted wood, colors, small flowers,...
