With a price tag of less than €20 and a simple design, the table Lack from IKEA could do with a makeover.
How about transforming this table that everyone has at home, into a chic and trendy piece of furniture?
Well, your wish is granted!
Here is the trick to customize your IKEA Lack table into a chic and unique piece of furniture . Look, it's quite simple:
Contents
- a piece of wallpaper (it's up to you to choose the pattern that best suits your decoration)
- spray glue (at the hardware store it is also called neoprene spray glue)
- clear glue varnish
- shellac
- upholstery nails, like these brass upholstery nails
- a hammer
- a rule
1. Make sure your table is clean and dry.
2. Spray the glue spray on the top of the table.
3. Gently lay your wallpaper over it.
It's even easier to do if there are two of you. One person sprays the glue while the other hangs the wallpaper.
Pro tip: if air bubbles appear under the wallpaper, you can flatten them with a rolling pin, a ruler or with your bank card.
4. After spraying glue, fold the paper over along the edges of the table. Do the same for the underside of the table.
Tip: remove the table legs to make it easier.
5. Apply a coat of glue varnish.
6. Once the glue varnish is dry, apply a layer of shellac.
Inexpensive and effective, glue varnish and shellac protect and preserve surfaces. So don't worry, if you spill liquid on it, you can easily clean the table without damaging it.
7. Once the surface is dry, add the upholstery nails to the outline of your table.
For a nice neat finish, it is best to put the nails at the same distance from the edge of the table.
To do this, measure 15 mm from the edge to the head of the nail and make a point on the table with a pencil. Then measure 20mm between each nail head so that they are the same distance apart.
There you go, you have transformed your IKEA Lack table into a chic piece of furniture :-)
Easy, isn't it? She's still more beautiful like that, isn't she?
- Know that this trick is much easier to do if you have just bought an IKEA table and have not yet assembled it.
- If your wallpaper isn't big enough to cover the whole table, just put two pieces of wallpaper next to each other like here.
