Determine the size of your headboard before you go shopping for doors. You'll want to make sure the doors you buy are equal to the overall width you need. If you can't find an old set of doors to reuse, buy new hollow core doors, they are an affordable alternative.
Cut three 1x4 pine boards slightly smaller than the width of the headboard. Or have the hardware store cut your wood for you.
Attach the two doors by fastening the braces horizontally along the back with 1-1/2" wood screws.
We painted our doors a grayish-green color, a color that is indicative of the Franco-Provincial style.
Give the door a distinctive look by adding decorative moldings. If you can't find moldings at a resale store, try the hardware store or search online for plenty of options. Use wood glue to adhere the trim to the doors.
After gluing the decorative moldings, it's a good idea to brace them to ensure they adhere properly and dry well and flat.
We painted our trim the same color as the doors and finished it off to add character. If you want the trim to stand out more, try painting it a different color than the doors.
