Marigold has been shown to have a repellent influence on nematodes, small microscopic worms (2 mm long maximum) which live in the ground. Nematodes do serious damage to plant roots. If the soil is infested, the vegetable garden is finished.
The marigold to plant in your garden is the Tagetes signata , flowers yellow, simple. It is a very floriferous plant, decorative with a very rustic side. The smell of marigolds also repels aphids.
You find it in bucket or in seed. Consider harvesting the seeds in late summer for next year's sowing.
