Winter is coming, and with it the time when we spend a lot of time at home; this year even more than in other years due to the current pandemic situation. Feeling good, relaxed, good food – we spend a lot of money on this. But many forget our most important resource:the air we breathe. We therefore give 6 tips for better indoor air.
A few simple tricks can significantly improve air quality:
1. Be careful not to burn anything during cooking (toast, meat, etc.). Use cooking oils with a higher smoke point, such as sunflower oil.
2. When furnishing your home, make sure that materials and furniture are exposed to as little as possible to harmful substances.
3. Instead of scented candles and air fresheners, it is better to use atomizers for essential oils with natural substances, for example eucalyptus. An additional advantage:it has been proven that these dust mites reduce in the house!
4. Put down a lot of plants. These are partly natural air purifiers.
5. Wash new clothes first. This reduces a large amount of chemicals released into the air and, of course, the body.
6. Very important: Ventilate the inside well – this is essential, especially in winter! It is best to ventilate 3 to 4 times a day:Open the windows in several rooms completely for a short time and leave the room doors open. For the winter months, the guideline value for the ventilation time is 5 to 10 minutes. And please:turn off the heating in the meantime! Energy experts say it's worth it even at 5 minutes.
Hint: watch out for condensation on the inside of your windows. This condensed air humidity indicates incorrect behavior in heating and ventilation. The humidity in the room is too high, as a result of which there was not sufficient ventilation or the indoor air is too cold and can therefore absorb less moisture.
