This is how you optimally illuminate every room in your home

It may be a cliché, but good lighting is important in your home. Lighting affects the atmosphere of a room, and when done right, it enhances your entire interior. But lighting is often the last thing on the mind when furnishing a home. Maybe it's because the options are so vast. Or we think of energy consumption. Either way, lighting is all about creating the ultimate atmosphere. Read our tips for optimally lighting every room in your home.

Make a nice mix
In a room you need more than one light source. Every room should have a combination of different lamps so that it is optimally lit. There are different types of lighting. There is basic lighting, mood lighting, functional lighting, directional lighting and decorative lighting. Basic lighting is the general lighting in the house that ensures an even light distribution, even when it is dark outside. These are the lights you turn on first when you enter a room. Mood lighting consists of lamps with which you create a cozy and warm atmosphere in the house, such as a hanging lamp above the dining table or a floor lamp in the living room. Functional lighting are lamps with a specific function and often give bright light, so that you can see or read something clearly. Think of a reading lamp or a desk lamp. With directional lighting, you use lamps to illuminate a specific spot or to highlight a specific object. This can be, for example, a painting, photo or accessory. Decorative light is purely for decoration, such as a lighting cord or Christmas lights.

The hallway
A hallway is a temporary space that people pass through rather than linger, so it's the perfect space to be bold with your choice of lighting. Make a statement with an unusual or decorative pendant lamp, for example. This not only illuminates the space, but is also a function in itself. Choose a warm color lamp, not too bright and not too dark.

The kitchen The kitchen is a place where bright light is more important than atmosphere. Make sure that your counter and gas stove has enough light and that your dining table is well lit. Place a pendant light above a dining table and don't forget the light under the cabinet:LED light strips on the undersides of your upper cabinets are the easiest way to create an evenly lit counter space for food preparation and cooking.

The living room
When planning the lighting for the living room, keep the location of your furniture in mind, rather than just focusing on the ceiling. In addition to the basic lighting for the room, you should also add floor and table lamps. They not only help to illuminate the room, but also create atmosphere.

The bedroom Bedroom lighting should be bright in the morning and intimate and atmospheric in the evening. In addition to a ceiling lamp, you could add small lamps next to your bed for reading, for example. Accent lighting in the bedroom is mood lighting. Whether to create a romantic atmosphere or simply to relax, a warm glow works well in the bedroom. One central light source is recommended for children's rooms, and possibly two wall lamps on both sides of the bed. And don't forget the desk in the bedroom:it also needs lighting.

The bathroom In addition to ceiling lighting, you should also be able to create an atmosphere in the bathroom that is relaxing and spa-like. Flexibility to adjust the lighting is very important. That's why you should put dimmers here, just like in the whole house. Make sure the shower and bath area is well lit, and add some accent lighting by the sink.
