Tulip season has begun ! As soon as the good weather arrives in Spring, this bulb plant which belongs to the Liliaceae family blooms in our gardens and in our window boxes . With its shimmering colors and thousands of varieties, the tulip has become an essential and accessible flower , a symbol of fertility and love. In the Netherlands it is even the national flower. And as if that were not enough, it is a plant that requires very little maintenance when planted. But once cut, it's not the same thing. Tulips, although they hold up well in a bouquet, need a minimum of maintenance.
To properly preserve your tulips in a bouquet it is necessary to take care of it. Above all, when you are at your florist, opt for tulips that are not yet open , with tightly closed buttons. Once at home, they will open gently and can last up to 10 days. To do this, using a sharp knife or a pair of scissors cut the stems of the flower 1 to 2 centimeters. This beveled cut will ensure better water absorption. Next, remove the bottom leaves so that they are not submerged in water and fade more quickly. Finally, to put them in water choose a high vase , they will stand better, and water it regularly with clean, fresh water .
