Brrr! No matter how much we turn up the heating, drafts seep in through the edges of our windows. Conclusion:we have a cold, we receive a salty bill and we waste energy for nothing (poor polar bears…). Three good reasons to stop the massacre! Insulating a window only takes a few minutes and costs almost nothing (about 20 euros, max!). Just follow these 3 steps:
1/ We start by identifying where the air currents come from, by simply passing our hand all around the window. If you feel the cold coming in, this is where the heat is escaping and this is where you will need to fill the gap. Enemy Spotted:Attack!
2/ We open our windows and clean the contours with degreasing products, so that it stays on well and that we don't work for nothing! And don't forget to wipe!
3/ Now you have a choice:
You can make a translucent silicone seal by spreading the insulation seal over all four edges of the joinery, making a generous bead. Then we cover the whole thing with release tape, to protect our work when we close the window. At the corners of the windows, the strip is cut with a cutter and then left to dry (window closed) for 24 hours. Tadam!
OR we buy ready-made caulking gaskets (preferably rubber, it's more resistant)! For this, we measure the size and thickness we need, we go buy the right model in a DIY store. Then, we clean the window sills, remove the sticker, stick the strip and cut off the excess... That's it!
So, isn't it better warm?
