There is nothing more changeable than a woman. At least this woman. As we live longer in our new house, I also start to have doubts about the choices in the interior. Our house is located in the countryside and has a somewhat rural appearance with an old-fashioned touch. We really like the country style in this house, but I would like to mix it with industrial to get a soft yet tough look. In any case, the old-fashioned look has to go. So it becomes rural industrial.

With a change in interior you can of course do a lot to get a tougher look. I love to browse the internet looking for inspiration for interior design. The point is that I like a lot of styles. I like a country style, as long as it doesn't go too much towards the flea market. But I also like industrial and a Scandinavian style can get me. I also like natural materials, but also white, black, gray and blue/green tones.
Now you can of course come up with a nice mix, I'm not afraid of that, but to change my interior all at once, that's not going to be financially viable. So I want to use the country style that this house already has and incorporate an industrial touch into it by, for example, using steel look doors and making other small changes in our interior. The paintwork is also an example of this (from brown to black suddenly looks very different).
Nevertheless, a country style at home starts with the basics, it has to be good.
The use of mainly natural tones characterizes a countryliving style at home. In that regard, I am stuck with my preference in colours. The basic colors are mainly white, but also combine different types of gray and brown tones. good. Of course, within the country style you do not only have to deal with the shades, but also with the materials. Natural materials are therefore important for a rural living style. Think of wood and stone, but also fabric and rattan. You give a tough industrial touch by adding some steel.
In terms of window coverings, you can go in many directions in your house when it comes to a country style. Wooden blinds, for example, fit very well with a rural setting, but roman blinds are also often seen in a country style.
We ourselves (I think) go for duets in our living room and kitchen. We used to have blinds and I still think that's great, especially for the light. I just don't like the amount of dust that gets on it. In itself, blinds are quite easy to clean, but I try to make choices where I can combine cosiness with maintenance-friendly. Duettes are just that little bit easier here. And I expect our cats will be more careful with that, blinds are of course fantastic to sit between with their paws.
In addition to the duets, beautiful inbetweens are indispensable for a country style in the living room. For this I have to take a look around, but I really want to add that for the cozy touch.
And then the floor. Here we have a difficult point to tackle. We currently have a tiled floor of natural stone, but it is not to my taste. And also not really rural industrial. Way too dark and very bumpy. And then immediately comes the question 'what do you want?'. I just can't answer that. And that is mainly because we would like to expand further in the future. If we are now installing a new floor, it must be in a style that we will be able to install later.
I prefer a residential concrete floor (industrial look) like the one above, but that won't be it. After a renovation we can no longer put it through, then you would continue to see a whole seam and we don't like that. For example, floor tiles would be possible, or a beautiful herringbone floor or something. Only a real wooden floor, I'm not really that keen on that anymore. I would like a floor that is easy to maintain, but still has a rural look.
I really like these floors. Belgian bluestone and Dallen natural stone fit perfectly in a house with a country style. And the first also fits very nicely with industrial, don't you think? Disadvantage:the price is between € 85.00 – € 125.00 /m² (excluding installation). I like that quite a bit. Another disadvantage is that these tiles are sensitive to stains and that may not be very useful in a household with children, a dog and 3 cats.
Another floor that fits well in a country style in every home is a herringbone floor. These PVC herringbone floors are very maintenance-friendly and I think they also fit well with us. Industrial additions are also an excellent addition, such as steel-look doors or beautiful duets in a black framed frame.
Well, the basis is formed by the floor and the window decoration, in combination with the walls, which you can leave white as standard or give it a light touch. But you can also do a lot with accessories:
