The nicest dining benches for your dining table and what about the space?

We have had a dining bench at our dining table for years and I have a kind of love-hate relationship with it. I think it's super cool, a dining bench next to your dining area. In addition, a dining bench is also just nice of course and you can sit on that side with more people if it is necessary. However, there is also a downside and that is that I find it difficult that Luc sits so comfortably wide on the dining bench and I don't seem to have that much space. That may also depend on how much space we need around the dining table, but I think I'm just being pushed by my adolescent 😉 .

Anyway, a dining bench can be very useful around your dining table. Especially if you only have limited space to, for example, slide the chairs back because of a wall.

How much space do you need around your dining table?

Let's start with that first. How much space do you actually need around your dining table? Because undoubtedly you also like to have a spacious dining table where you can dine generously with each other. I personally think that is a great pleasure! Only if you don't have enough space around that dining table, then it suddenly isn't nice anymore.

By default it is assumed that you need about 120 centimeters around your dining table † Then you have enough space to slide your chair back when you want to get up. But also enough space to walk behind the seats if someone is already seated. Per person you also need about 70 centimeters to be able to sit comfortably at the table. If you have a large family, or if you often have dinner with friends, a large dining table is recommended. With 8 people you already need a table of 3.00 meters long.

That sounds nice of course, but not everyone has that much space. I even have a renovation of our house on my wish list to increase the space around the dining table in the kitchen. I would like to turn it a quarter turn compared to now so that you can walk around it on all sides. Seems ideal to me! But for the time being we are making do with the space we have.

Create more space around your dining table

By using a dining bench at your dining table you can at least create more space. Yes, it is a bit more difficult to queue, but the sofa can still be closer to the wall than you would with chairs. And if someone wants to leave the table who is sitting on the dining bench, and the other isn't yet, then that also means taking each other into account. With a chair you have less trouble with that. But the convenience of saving space and the cool look of a dining bench at the kitchen table means that I can't say goodbye to it yet. In addition, you also create a cozy atmosphere in addition to the space and a dining bench also gives a quieter look than all separate chairs.

Hence also inspiration for the enthusiast for the most beautiful dining benches at the dining table.

Dining bench with flap space

With the dining bench above you create more space around your dining table. Because the sofa is really built against the wall, the table can also be pushed closer to the wall and you have a lot of space around your dining table on the side where the chairs are located. Very nice of course. In addition, this flap bench also saves space… cleaning up in your kitchen will be a breeze! Optically, this dining bench has one last important effect. By extending the dining bench, the view of the dining area also increases.

Corner sofa around your dining table

A corner dining bench is ideal because it gives you even more seating space at your dining table. In addition, I personally find a corner sofa very playful instead of an ordinary dining bench and chairs opposite. Don't you think?

Dining benches in all kinds of colors and sizes

We ourselves have cognac-colored dining room chairs and a matching dining bench. If I had to choose again, I would go for a different look. Would you prefer something a little more rugged in appearance, or with a hint of vintage or something? Fortunately, dining benches are widely available these days, in all kinds of designs, colors and sizes. You can of course play it safe and choose the dining bench in the same style as your chairs. But you can also vary as you can see below. Also cool, right?

Unique dining bench for at the table or just in the hall or living room for example

This unique dining bench has stolen my heart. What a beautiful specimen this is. Admittedly, a dining bench without a backrest may be slightly less comfortable, but what an eye-catcher you have with this gym horse! I would put it in my house, I think it's fantastic.

A bit industrial and nice and 'open'

One of the nicer dining benches I think above. I am completely in love with this steel blue color, and I also really like the vintage look.

Another special example of a dining bench

If you thought that gym horse above was special, what do you think of this 'tractor' dining bench. A picture, right? Fits perfectly in an industrial interior.

Scandinavian dining bench

The above is still a bit on the safe side because this sofa now matches the dining table again. Very 'clean' and Scandinavian, I like that. In addition, a dining bench without a backrest is also really saving when it comes to space around your dining table.

Tree trunk dining bench and matching table, nice match!

Tree trunk tables are completely in. Combine this with a beautiful tree trunk dining bench and you are completely in the mix and match. A couple of nice chairs on the other side of the table and this cool yet natural look is ready. As you can see, this way you not only have a lot of space around your dining table, but also a very nice view of your table, instead of looking at the back of your chairs. Very beautiful!

Combine different shapes and styles for space and atmosphere around your dining table

This combination shows that deviating can still give a nice match. By working with a similar fabric on the dining bench and dining room chairs, you still get a kind of unity, even if different shapes and colors are used.

Simplicity of your dining bench also gives you extra space at your dining table.

Another wonderful example of what simplicity can do. Fastening a simple backrest to the wall with leather straps is not only great to see. This saves you even more on the space you need for your dining table. Smart!

If you take the dining bench in the same style as the rear wall, you know that it will be a beautiful whole. Nice and basic and minimalist!
