Sometimes you have those days when it really isn't easy. A very memorable moment of a day that really did not go well (for my mother that is) was the explosion of tomato paste in the kitchen. If you have a memorable moment in the kitchen and share it, you have a chance to win a chef at home.
As a child, the kitchen was always the heart of the house. It was not only cozy and warm there (I lived in a house where everything was heated with wood and there was a large wood stove in the kitchen), but my mother was always in the kitchen a lot. In the kitchen was a large wooden table and a cozy bench where it was also good to sit. Especially in the cold and dark winter days we spent a lot of time in the kitchen with my mother. A lot of cookies were baked, laughed and talked.
Later we moved, we got older and the kitchen was mainly my mother's domain. Although I still liked to be in the kitchen, where I would sit on the counter while my mother was busy baking or cooking. It was always fun, until that one day…
My mother was cooking and asked me to get a can of tomato paste from the pantry. No problem, I'll do it. Back in the kitchen, my mother took the can opener from the drawer and just as she was about to open the can, the tomato paste flew all over us. It was a veritable explosion of tomato paste in the kitchen. We had never experienced anything like this.
Well and then I couldn't take it anymore… As sad as it was that the entire kitchen was covered in tomato splashes from top to bottom, I was crying with laughter. Really, the tomato paste was in the most impossible places and no matter how well my mother had cleaned, weeks later we still came across a splash of tomato paste here and there. And that was enough for me to burst out laughing every time. My mother was initially too stunned to say or do anything (yes, she too was covered in tomato paste), but it didn't last long. She was also completely devastated.
There must be a photo somewhere of the havoc that the tomato paste has wrought in our white kitchen, but unfortunately I don't know where that photo has gone. In any case, it was a very memorable moment that will never be forgotten.

If, like my mother, you plan to use a small can of tomato paste, I recommend the following:
Don't have a can opener to hand? Then you can open the can by sanding the lid over a garden tile. Another option is to put a pointed knife in the lid and then cut it open. Instead of a knife you can also just use a spoon, as in the video below:
Have you ever opened a can of tomato paste and the contents flew over your head? Or was my mother just unlucky?
