Instead of filling my trash with it, I keep my cans. I make fairy lanterns out of them.
Magical atmosphere, for the little ones and for us, the big kids.
We were so motivated to eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day that obviously I have plenty of canned goods.
Instead of filling my trash can with them, I create magic lanterns. Hardly any material needed, my can is self-sufficient.
A recycling version of Christmas, here I am green and above all thrifty !
Here is the principle:we drill the tin can small holes so as to create a drawing.
When you put a tea light inside, the design created by the small holes will shine brightly.
1. To prevent the tin from deforming when I poke small holes in it, I fill it with water and put it in the freezer. Beforehand, I run it under hot water to easily remove its "extra fine green beans" label.
Once the water freezes, it helps my can stay strong to drill small holes in it.
2. My can is frozen. Perfect. I take a fairly large nail and drill my first hole using the hammer. As if I were hanging a nail on the wall.
3. I let my imagination run wild and I create a nice design by making several holes. I chose to draw little stars, perfect for the end of year celebrations.
4. If I want to add a handle to carry it more easily (and give it a real "lantern" look), I drill 2 holes on each side of my can, at the opening, at the top.
5. Once my drawing is finished, I leave my can in the sink, until the water inside thaws. Then I empty it. And it's over!
I have made several lanterns like this. I even painted some white or black for variety. They can also be painted in green and red, the traditional Christmas colors.
Result, my house is magical with all these lanterns. I even put some on the balcony to create a very warm atmosphere. It's even better than Santa's...
